    Dear Parents,

I am very excited to have begun my journey as the director of Right Steps of Rittenhouse Square! I wanted to take a moment to let you know a little about myself. I am the lucky mom of three wonderful children ranging in age from 8-26 years old. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education from Holy Family University. I began teaching pre-school fresh out of college. I soon worked my way up to direct my preschool program. While directing, some of my responsibilities included acquiring NAEYC Accreditation, rising with Keystone Stars, and planning curriculum for our students that was aligned with the Early Learning Standards. I also was responsible for hiring and maintaining staffing. I then provided staff with ongoing hands on training and support in their classrooms. This helped to acclimate teaching staff to their new environment and to give them some tools to help them become great teachers.

One of the things that I look forward to doing at Right Steps is to strengthen the parent/teacher (PTO) group. I would love for our parents to be active in planning fun events or outings for our families to share and take part in. We are located in such a fantastic city. It would be awesome to plan some new adventures for our children and families to enjoy together. Another thing that could be planned at a PTO meeting would be a schedule for parents to surprise their child and class by coming in to read a special story to the children. The possibilities are endless, and I am eager to begin making plans for our children!

I am happy to let all of you know about a special event we have planned to celebrate our 5th year anniversary. On September 29, 2016, we will be hosting a dinner buffet at Estia from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The space will be available starting at 5:30pm, but the event will start at 6:00pm. This will be a fun event that we hope all of the families will be able to attend and spend time with the administrative team and the other families. This event is for all the grownups, but we will have free childcare available for all the families who RSVP to the event. The children will enjoy pizza and a movie with some of our teachers. Look for more information on your Tadpole email.

I was at my previous school for 24 years. I worked hard and had the privilege to meet staff, parents, and children that I came to love and think of as part of a family. I can’t wait to have the opportunity to meet everyone and build new relationships with the children and all of the Right Steps families. I want you all to feel very comfortable about coming to me with any questions or concerns you might have. My door will always be open.

I look forward to talking to each of you!

    Sincerely,
    Fran

    Mary Beth Cunningham

Born and raised in Northeast Philadelphia, Mary Beth knew she would become an elementary education teacher from a young age. Growing up, Mary Beth experienced first-hand what it is like to be surrounded by young children. Her mother ran a home daycare center in which she played an integral role interacting and working with the students. During the summers, Mary Beth volunteered at camps and tutored other students in grade school. The youngest of four children and having six nieces and nephews, Mary Beth finds joy in educating children. Mary Beth strives to ensure each students first learning experience is an amazing one, and she believes the first interactions shape every student into the person they will one day become.

A Cum Laude graduate of West Chester University, Mary Beth joined the Right Steps team in 2009 as a Kindergarten teacher. While studying at West Chester University, Mary Beth worked at a daycare center which allowed her to gain experience interacting with students from 6-weeks old to 12-years old.

Mary Beth has a Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education (K-6) and Special Education (N-21). Mary Beth believes that a positive attitude is contagious and that is why she is always smiling!
